Mariam Lakdawala is the Bariatric Dietitian at MetaHeal – Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery Centre, Mumbai. With over 11 years of experience in clinical nutrition, she specializes in guiding patients through every stage of their bariatric surgery journey—from preoperative preparation to lifelong nutritional care after surgery.
She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics from Mumbai. Mariam believes that successful weight management is built on practical, sustainable lifestyle changes rather than restrictive diets. She develops individualized nutrition plans that take into account each patient’s food preferences, cultural practices, daily routine, and affordability, making healthy eating both realistic and sustainable. She also emphasizes regular follow-ups to improve adherence, build confidence, and support long-term success.
Her focus extends beyond weight loss to optimizing nutritional status, preventing vitamin and mineral deficiencies, preserving muscle mass, improving metabolic health, and helping patients develop a healthy relationship with food.
Mariam has co-authored several bariatric nutrition books and textbook chapters and has co-edited three bariatric recipe books designed specifically for patients after weight-loss surgery. She was awarded the prestigious International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) Integrated Health Scholarship in 2018 and has been invited as faculty and speaker at national conferences, including OSSICON, IDACON, and FALS.
As an integral member of Dr. Aparna Govil Bhasker’s multidisciplinary bariatric team, Mariam believes that surgery is only one component of obesity treatment. Lasting success comes from ongoing nutritional guidance, behavioural change, and compassionate support. Ms. Mariya Anthony Joseph is an experienced Clinic Manager and Coordinator with over 20 years of professional experience in healthcare administration and patient coordination. She plays a pivotal role in managing both the administrative and clinical workflows of the practice, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and seamless coordination of patient consultations, investigations, and peri-operative care.
Known for her patient-centred and empathetic approach, Mariya is often the first point of contact for patients and families. She listens attentively, addresses concerns promptly, and ensures that patients feel informed, supported, and reassured throughout their treatment journey.
With strong organisational and problem-solving skills, she efficiently handles logistical challenges and acts as a crucial link between patients, surgeons, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
